M.D. Opthalmology or Doctor of Medicine in Opthalmology is a postgraduate Ophthalmology course.  Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine specializing in the anatomy, function and diseases of the eye. M.D.s are specially trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery. Many Eye M.D.s are also involved in scientific research into the causes and cures for eye diseases and vision problems. Course is helpful to solve eye problems like as glaucoma (an eye disease that damages the optic nerve and impairs vision which may progress to blindness), iritis (inflammation of the iris which may be due to a systemic disease), chemical burns orbital cellulite (a severe disease of the tissues that surrounds the eyes containing eyelids, cheek and eyebrow), eye trauma (injury to the eyes caused by accident, violence or similar events), crossed eyes, eye tumors, retinopathy (non-inflammatory damage to the retina of the eye which may be caused by a systemic disease like diabetes), optic neuritis (inflammation of the eye nerve accompanied by pain and sometimes loss of vision). The duration of the course is three years and it is career orienting in nature.

  • MBBS with minimum 55% marks
  • Some reputed colleges and institutes do conduct entrance examination to get admission to Degree course.
