Four medical colleges lock horns with admission panel

The managements of self-finance medical colleges have locked horns with Admission Committee for Medical and Para Medical Courses (ACMPMC) after the managements decided to fill up the management quota on their own.

Officials said that in the past, the management of four colleges, situated at Surendranagar, Bhuj, Ahmedabad and Karamsad, used to surrender their quota to the ACMPMC.

However, this year, these colleges have informed the admission committee that they would like to admit students on their own and would use the marks obtained in the board examinations as benchmark.

They have also refused to admit students based on the established formula of using marks obtained in secondary board and Gujarat Common Entrance Test (Gujcet) in the ratio of 60 and 40% respectively.

Retorting to managements' move, the ACMPMC has made it clear that they have to consider Gujcet marks for admissions. ACMPMC sources said that they have already told the managements that if they want to admit students on their own, they will have to do it as per rules.
