Non-AIPMT students to face intake delay too

The Supreme Court verdict to cancel the results the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) will not only hit 1,500-odd aspiring doctors - as they will have to appear for the examination again - but it will also make the non-AIPMT candidates who are seeking a place in Gujarat colleges wait for admissions.

Officials of the Admission Committee for Medical and Para Medical Courses said that 144 seats are reserved in government medical colleges for the AIPMT students. The counselling for these students is generally held in July. But this time it would be delayed as the apex court has asked them to conduct the examination in four weeks' time.

The officials said that they are going to write to the AIPMT authorities to complete the formalities by September 30.

"If the AIPMT authorities fail to complete the admission process by September 30, we will allot these seats to Gujarat students without waiting for the allocation of students under the all-India quota," said an officer. "We will go ahead with the admission leaving these 144 seats vacant. Later if any of the seats fall vacant, we will have to accommodate our students."

However, he also said that in the past not a single seat has gone vacant in the all-India quota.
