About College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry

The College of Veterinary sciences & Animal Husbandry, one of the constituent colleges of the CAU was established through the promulgation of an ordinance (No. M-2 of 1995;dated 20th February 1995) and became functional with the admission of first batch of students to B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course in the year 1997.

The College is located at Selesih, North Aizawl that is about 12 km away from Aizawl, the capital city of MIZORAM, on the Aizawl-Sihphir-Silchar sub-highway. The Campus of the College is spread over 168.61 acres of land, mostly of hilly terrain at an altitude of 965 meters the sea level. The Climate of Aizawl is very pleasant, generally cool in summer and not very cold in winter. The minimum and maximum temperature ranges from 7o-8oc to 30o-32oc . It rains heavily from May to September and the average annual rainfall is about 2500 mm.

The jurisdiction of the College extends to different North Eastern Hill Sates that includes the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim. The College has 17(Seventeen) Teaching Departments and a Clinical Veterinary Teaching Complex as per the Minimum Standard For Veterinary Education Regulation-1993 prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India.

The category-wise requirements for the candidates seeking Admission in PhD programme are as follows.

For General/OBC candidates:
At least 60% marks or Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 7.00/10.00 or 3.75/5.00, or 3.00/4.00 in M.Sc. (Agri)/M.V.Sc.

For SC/ST/PH candidates:
At least 55% marks or Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 6.50/10.00 or 3.50/5.00, or 2.80/4.00 in M.Sc. (Agri./Hort.)/M.V.Sc.

A good knowledge of English language. Selection of candidates.

The selection of candidate for admission to Doctoral programmes will be made on the merit with weightage out of 100 marks is as follows:

Written Entrance Test : 60
Academic scores : 20
Personal Interview : 20

The Entrance Test shall be conducted discipline-wise and the candidates have to answer 200 objective questions in 2 hr 30 min.
The minimum qualifying marks in written test shall be 50 percent for General/OBC candidates and 45 percent for SC/ST/PH candidates. The candidates qualified in the written test shall be called for Interview.

Admission in Ph.D. programmes will be on the basis of Entrance Test, Academic Records and Interview. The written entrance test shall be conducted at the College of Postgraduate Studies, Umiam (Barapani), Meghalaya and the Dean of the College shall act as Coordinator of the test.
The question papers shall be invited from the External Experts in the respective disciplines. The Experts shall be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor from the Panel of Experts proposed by the Director of Instruction.

Course InformationThe College is offering the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary sciences & Animal Husbandry Since 1997 and has adopted fully the minimum Standard for Veterinary Education (Five Year B.V.Sc. & A.H.-Degree Courses) Regulation-1993 prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India. The B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree Programmes is spread over a period of 10 semesters, covering 188 Credit Hours including 6 (six) months Cumpulsory Internship Programme.

The Present intake capacity is 67 students per annum. the University allocates the seats and seeks nominations from the respective North Eastern Hill States. The Concerned Departments Of the respective State Goverment nominate the students on the basis of competitive enterance examinations conduct by them for the Admission. Fifteen percent of total seats are reserved for the candidates nomonated by the Veterinary Council of india, New Delhi on All India Competitive Examination (A.I.C.E) for Admission to B.V.Sc.& A.H. Degree programme. The Reservations of Various catageries are as adopted by the respective State Goverments and the University in view of the directives recieved from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. Of India.

For Undergraduate ( B.V.Sc. & A.H.) degree programme two examination are conducted. One end-Term Examination is conducted by the Course Instructor at the end of first and second semestor. At the end of academic session (at the end of second semestor), External Annual Composite Examinations are conducted.
